C7 Summit G7 Justice  | SkyDNews Foreign Desk | Paris, France - June 5, 2026   C7 Summit G7 Justice dominated discussions in Paris on Friday as the Executive Director of the Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO), Oyebisi Babatunde Oluseyi, challenged G7 leaders to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to defend multilateralism, reverse aid cuts, and protect civic space.     He made this statement while delivering a keynote address at the opening session of the Civil 7 (C7) Summit in Paris (C7 Summit G7 Justice), where civil society leaders from different regions gathered under the theme “Global Justice and Solidarity: Mobilizing for Change.” Information obtained by SkyDNews says the summit is convened to develop policy recommendations that will feed into the upcoming G7 Leaders’ Summit.    

    He said civil society should not be treated as an add-on to global decision-making but as a central pillar of solutions to today’s interconnected crises. He made this known while warning that the current global environment represents a critical test for international cooperation, especially as conflicts increase, humanitarian needs rise, climate impacts worsen, and health systems face growing pressure.     He further noted that these challenges are unfolding at a time when development assistance is declining and civic space is shrinking in many parts of the world. He made this statement while stressing that the G7 must decide whether it will defend multilateralism and international law in practice, not only in speeches.     Information obtained by SkyDNews indicates that C7 Summit G7 Justice discussions are expected to shape recommendations ahead of the G7 Leaders' Summit.   However, SkyDNews learned that the civil society leader described the moment as a defining one for global governance, arguing that the international system is under strain and urgently requires renewed commitment to fairness and solidarity. He made it clear that the present situation is “not a normal G7 year,” insisting that global leaders are being tested on whether they will match commitments with action.     He also rejected narratives that frame civil society demands as requests for charity. He made this statement while stressing that what is needed is justice, not assistance, and called for structural reforms in global financial systems, stronger protection of human rights, and greater inclusion of affected communities in decision-making processes.    

    He further challenged what he described as contradictions in global policy, noting that it is inconsistent for governments to claim support for multilateralism while simultaneously cutting aid or weakening international institutions. Information obtained by SkyDNews says he also emphasized that the influence of the G7 in shaping global finance and governance must come with accountability and responsibility.     He highlighted the role of civil society organizations as frontline actors in humanitarian response, community development, and accountability work across countries. He made this known while calling for stronger protection of civic space, more predictable and flexible funding mechanisms, and institutionalized participation of civil society in global governance processes.    

He further aligned his remarks with the broader agenda of the Civil 7 Summit, which is focused on reforming multilateral systems, strengthening international humanitarian law, addressing restrictions on civic space, and rethinking the future of development assistance.         He concluded his address with a direct call to G7 governments to reverse cuts to Official Development Assistance, recommit to the 0.7% global solidarity target, protect fundamental human rights, and ensure more inclusive and accountable multilateral institutions. He made this statement while warning that the world does not need more declarations, but concrete decisions that reflect global realities.
