Youth Mobilisation Campaign: Young Voices Rising for Civic Awareness in Imo State
By SkyDNews Reporter | Owerri, Nigeria

In a bold stride towards civic awakening and legal empowerment, Joseph Vitus, a passionate law student and youth advocate, has launched the
#KnowYourRight Youth Mobilisation Campaign in Imo State under the banner of Rosana Empowerment Foundation (REF). The campaign, which blends grassroots activism with digital advocacy, seeks to educate and inspire Nigerian youth about their constitutional rights, civic duties, and the
power of peaceful participation in democracy.
The initiative, which kicked off in early 2023, mobilized volunteers across three local government areas, Owerri Municipal, Mbaitoli, and Ikeduru, reaching over 1,500 secondary school students, young voters, and community-based youth networks. Through interactive school outreaches, storytelling sessions, and simplified legal handbooks, young people were introduced to fundamental civic principles, the importance of voting, and the right to peaceful assembly.
“
We realized that many young Nigerians didn’t understand the constitution beyond the name. This campaign was designed to break it down using stories, art, and dialogue,” said Joseph Vitus, the campaign’s lead and REF’s Director of Legal Services.

To complement the on-ground engagements, a vibrant digital campaign unfolded on Instagram and Twitter, using short videos, infographics, and testimonies from youth changemakers. The campaign hashtag,
#KnowYourRight, quickly gained traction, sparking conversations around accountability, police encounters, and youth roles in nation-building.
REF Executive Director, Justina Mu'azu Adamu, commended the initiative, stating that “
Joseph’s campaign aligns with our mission to build a generation that is legally conscious and civically engaged.”
The campaign has been featured in school bulletins, youth radio shows, and online civic platforms, with calls to replicate it in other parts of Nigeria. It has also drawn interest from local authorities and international youth networks.
As Nigeria's democracy matures, initiatives like #KnowYourRight prove that youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are the transformers of today.
