Cancer Advocacy Conference | SkyDNews Network, NIGERIA

The Civil Society for Cancer Advocacy and Prevention (CiSCAP) has taken a significant step toward strengthening the fight against cancer in Nigeria with the successful hosting of its inaugural Cancer Advocacy Conference in Jos, Plateau State. The Cancer Advocacy Conference brought together civil society organizations, healthcare professionals, policy advocates, and delegates from the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to deliberate on strategies for tackling the growing burden of cancer in the country. The conference, themed “Cancer Advocacy and Prevention in Our Society,” served as a platform for stakeholders to promote awareness, strengthen collaboration, and advance policies aimed at improving cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment across Nigeria.

The event was formally declared open by the Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, who represented the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Mutfwang. Delivering the Governor’s message, Dr. Baamlong commended CiSCAP for its bold initiative and emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving cancer care and strengthening community-level awareness. While welcoming participants, he encouraged them to explore the cultural wealth of Plateau State and savour the famous “Plateau Potato,” often mistakenly referred to as Irish potato.
