The busy Bauchi-Gombe federal highway is once again closed due to flooding, leaving many travellers stranded and unable to continue their journeys.
People have had to cancel their travel plans due to the flood and some have taken a longer route through the Dukku road in Bauchi State to reach Bauchi.
A bridge on the Gombe-Bauchi Road in Bara village has been collapsing every rainy season, disrupting traffic between the two states.
Travelers are unhappy with the lack of action on the part of the government. Despite the bridge collapsing three times last year, no comprehensive repairs have been done to strengthen it, even though it's a federal highway.
So far, only basic repairs using rocks have been done on the collapsed bridge. These temporary measures haven't solved the main issues.
However, Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, announced that the federal government plans to reconstruct this road in the next six months to finally fix the ongoing problems faced by commuters and communities relying on this important road.
