In a strategic move to bolster Bauchi State's defenses against communicable diseases, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced a collaborative initiative with the state government. Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, Director General of NCDC, emphasized the significance of this partnership during a recent engagement with the Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Primary Health Care Development Agency.
The NCDC, entrusted by law to spearhead efforts in preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats, has expressed its commitment to supporting Bauchi State in combating prevalent diseases like Lassa fever and Diphtheria. Dr Adetifa praised Bauchi State for its proactive approach to health challenges, underscoring the need for collective action to address these seasonal outbreaks.
Bauchi, alongside other states, has been grappling with recurring episodes of Diphtheria and Lassa fever. The NCDC's involvement is a testament to its dedication to providing assistance and expertise to regions in need. Dr Adetifa stressed the collaborative nature of the response, acknowledging that a united effort is crucial in mitigating the impact of these diseases on public health.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adamu Sambo, expressed appreciation for the NCDC's proactive involvement. During discussions with Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the focus turned to practical steps. The NCDC was urged to evaluate the Molecular Laboratory at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi. Dr Mohammed emphasized the urgency of obtaining approval for local Diphtheria testing, streamlining the process and reducing delays associated with sample confirmation in Abuja.
Furthermore, Dr Mohammed outlined the state's specific requirements for technical, equipment, and consumables support. These provisions are aimed at fortifying the state's preparedness to confront any health challenges that may arise. The collaboration between the NCDC and the Bauchi State government stands as a joint effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure and build resilience against communicable diseases, ensuring the well-being of the region's residents.
